A local nonprofit that takes in primates is asking for your help.
The Primate Sanctuary in Niagara Falls has taken a massive hit since the start of the pandemic.
The organization takes care of abused and unwanted monkeys, chimps, apes, and other primates.
It supports itself by offering educational presentations and lectures, but those have all been cancelled because of the pandemic.
On top of that, the volunteer organization is not eligible for federal aid like the Paycheck Protection Program.
The nonprofit is asking for community support so it can continue to support these animals.
"God forbid we were to close up. Where are we going to put these 42 primates?” said Carmen Presti, The Primate Sanctuary vice president. “It's part of my family, you know? These two girls have been with me for years, you know?"
The sanctuary is holding a raffle Friday for a signed Thurman Thomas jersey.
Tickets are $5 each, or five tickets for $20.
