The Buffalo Zoo Mobile makes a lot of stops. But Wednesday, it made an extra special one.
It was at Little Buffalo saying “thank you” to a pair of Buffalo kids, Ryan and Ava DeFazio.
The siblings have raised more than $5,000 for the Buffalo Zoo by making holiday ornaments in the shape of, you guessed it, buffalos.
It all started when the family got a letter in the mail saying that the Zoo is facing a $4 million deficit, and they wanted to do their part to help the animals.
The zoo was extremely thankful, and with the help of Little Buffalo, the meet and greet was coordinated.
The siblings are still painting ornaments from a re-vamped basement, thanks to mom and dad. But, they’ve also had a lot of help from friends, family even neighbors.
They only expected to make about 40 ornaments. At last count, they were at 250.
This has all been done within the past week. Wednesday’s adventure is only inspiring them to keep going.
"This is really cool," Ava said. "No, I never thought this would happen but it’s really cool that it can!"
"This is just a small look at just how amazing Buffalo is," said Christian Dobosiewicz, communications manager at the Buffalo Zoo. "We can’t thank the community enough for all the support, especially these kids! So, this is our little way of saying ‘thank you’ and we hope that this encourages other people to help by doing these organic gorilla type things as well."
The siblings have other fundraising events planned for the New Year! Tune in to Your Morning Buffalo on December 31 to hear more about those and get a special look at all of their efforts.
