BUFFALO, N.Y. — New Year’s Eve will likely be different in the Queen City this year.

Normally it features big crowds, music, and of course, the ball dropping from the Electric Tower.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says that, while nothing is official, the city is looking into making the celebration virtual.

"To bring tens of thousands of people to Downtown Buffalo to celebrate the New Year just isn’t going to be safe based on everything that we’re seeing," Brown said.

No formal decision about the celebration has been made at this time.
