- Family says their faith is helping them move forward
- Ellis spent months recovering from this incident that has left her in a quadriplegic state
"It really is truly a blessing that she is home now and that she's safe," Dan Hellwig, Chelsea's uncle, said.
Ellis is finally able to sleep in her own bed, and see familiar faces she knows and loves after spending months in recovery. Cars drove past her home in Buffalo to welcome her back. One group shouted, "Chelsea's Army, we're here for you Chelsea."
Family members say they were overjoyed by the outpouring of love from family members and even complete strangers that drove by.
"Her smile, she's just so happy, she was so happy to see everyone. Words don't describe what she's feeling right now, it was really heartwarming," Linda Jackson, Chelsea's aunt, said.
The crash happened in early April. Ellis was walking near Main Street and Benwood Avenue when a Buffalo Police SUV hit another car and collided with two people. Ellis suffered several critical injuries, including one to her spinal cord which requires round the clock care.
"I know once we get our groove we’ll get the rhythm. It will be a lot easier then, we're all a bit sleep deprived, the 24/7 care is a challenge," Jackson said.
"The family is going to need a lot more help in regards to nursing aid care, it is a struggle," Hellwig added.
Before making it home, Ellis spent months recovering from this incident that has left her in a quadriplegic state. Family members say their faith speaks volumes, and if Chelsea can get through it with a smile on her face, they can too.
"Supporters in over 72 different countries are praying for Chelsea and all 50 of our United States. God is good. His plan is really good for Chelsea, we know he's not done," Jackson added.
