CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — A local organization dedicated to helping adults and children with developmental disabilities is reopening their location in Cheektowaga.
Aspire of Western New York has been reopening locations across the region through a phased plan. Their Cheektowaga location was forced to close earlier this month after eight confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Due to the often hands-on nature of education and habilitation services, COVID-19 has caused some headaches for the group.
However, leaders say they’ve adapted to the new reality, and continue to offer the best services possible.
"I think our therapists and teachers are so in tune and accustomed to the needs of their respective students that they make as many accommodations as possible. Some do well, some surprise and do well when we didn't think that they would. I think now having gone through this for several months now, the COVID-19 pandemic, I think that we are very confident in our ability to deliver the services that the child need," Renee Filip, Aspire of WNY president and CEO, said.
Aspire of WNY has had no confirmed cases at this time, and has plans in place to alert family members and staff in the event of an infection.
