An 11-year-old Grafton girl is making it her mission to help in the battle against cancer.

Eliya Gladstone organized a yard sale to benefit her group called Creations 4 Cancer.

The sixth grader and two of her friends are selling items like jewelry, household items, and kids’ toys, and visitors can donate any amount for the goods they take. The donations will support the Dana Farber Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

Eliya was inspired by her dad Michael, a three-time cancer survivor who battled non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and bladder cancer.

Eliya says, "I want to find a way to raise money for the cancer research. I know there are so many kinds of cancer, that it takes so much money to make a cure for it, that they can't. So I want to raise money to help people create cures for cancer."

Eliya's dad Michael says, "We couldn't be more proud. I'm touched. She put all of this together, the logo, the website, this event. This is her idea of what 'Creations 4 Cancer' is all about and we're just helping her live that out."

The girls also sold lemonade and covid-safe baked goods like cookies and brownies. Eliya plans to continue selling goods at farmers' markets and sports games in town.

Anyone can make a donation on the group's website, creations4cancer.org.
