One local farm is teaching with a hands-on approach.
Becker Farms is now hosting educational tours of its grounds.
This way students can still get some hands-on learning even if their school year is remote.
Private tours include the apple and pumpkin patches and the animal farm, while larger group classes can be aligned with state learning guidelines.
Tours can be geared toward everyone from elementary to high school students.
"Less than 2 percent of the population lives on a farm. So a lot of kids especially don't know where their food comes from. How it gets to the grocery store or anything about it. So by having a hands-on experience, where they can pick the apples out of the tree and the pumpkins out of the field, I think it gives them a better understanding of what it takes to grow our food,” said Melinda Vizcarra, co-owner.
To ensure social distancing, private tours can host up to 35 people, while groups can have 50.
