Governor Cuomo says that his focus is on Western New York.
The COVID-19 infection rate in WNY is 2 percent, over two times the New York State average. He says the caution flag is out, and it’s going to be flown even higher.
“We’re going to deploy a SWAT team from the Department of Health that are going to do additional testing at eight sites – three in the city of Buffalo, one in Niagara Falls, one in Lockport, one in Williamsville, one in West Seneca and one in Dunkirk,” Cuomo said.
The team will open free rapid testing sites across the region in partnership with Kaleida Health, Erie County Medical Center, and Catholic Health. Eight new testing sites will open on Saturday, August 29.
Sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Saturday through Wednesday. All residents are eligible and appointments can be made by calling 833-NYSTRNG (697-8764). All tests are free of charge.
