Over the years, the City of Buffalo has built affordable houses to rent. Now they're also developing affordable homes to own.

The Land Bank is investing $400,000 in Buffalo's Riverside neighborhood.

Two new homes will be built on vacant lots on Crowley Avenue.

City leaders and developers were on hand to break ground Wednesday.

The two houses will go to moderate-income level families.

"The city gets beat up for only caring about downtown and only caring about big businesses, and that's not the case, as can be attested to by this small project that is going to have such a big impact on Crowley, on Riverside, and the family that eventually lives here,” said Joseph Golombek, Jr., (D) Buffalo common council member.

The Buffalo Erie Niagara Land Improvement Corporation, also known as The Land Bank, works to improve properties in distressed neighborhoods.

Construction on Crowley is expected to start within the next few days.
