It's a Western New York tradition: The Friday night fish fry during Lent.
The staff at the Grapevine Restaurant are ready.
They'e been been preparing since January, working with suppliers to make sure they have hundreds of extra pounds of fish.
Now, they are ready for the influx of people expected Friday.
“We are very excited,” said Liza Pane, co-owner of the Grapevine. “We look forward to this every year. It’s one step closer to spring, so when we begin Lent, serving all of our customers, all of the great food we have to offer, it is just a lot of fun.”
They have their traditional fried haddock, but they also offer many options for people abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent.
They offer specials like their Fisherman’s Platter with fried calamari, scallops, shrimp and mahi-mahi to healthier options like baked haddock topped with crab.
But nothing beats their traditional fried fish.
"Hundreds will go out the door,” Pane said. “This is our most popular one, our deep-fried haddock."
They encourage people to make reservations.
