More than 50 African-Americans who served in the Vietnam War were honored in Buffalo.

During the celebration at the Bennet-Wells American Legion Post, Congressman Brian Higgins said the men weren't properly welcomed home 50 years ago, and it's important to take time to thank them now.

Each veteran at the event got a pin in recognition of their service.

“Featured on the pin you will each receive is an eagle representing courage, honor, and dedicated service to our great nation," Higgins said.

The Bennet-Wells Post has been a chapter of the American Legion for 66 years, welcoming vets from World War II, Vietnam, and other conflicts.
