A woman is dead following an early morning apartment fire in Akron.

Amherst Fire Control received a call just before 12:30 a.m. for smoke coming out of the front apartment of a house in the 100 block of Buell Street. The fire was under control just after 1 a.m.

The occupant of the front apartment in the house was found dead as firefighters worked to control the fire.

She has not yet been identified.

The Red Cross is helping two occupants of the rear apartment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The house is considered a total loss.
