Officials took another step toward roundabouts in the village of Lancaster.

A consulting firm met with the village Thursday to address concerns about two intersections on Pleasant Avenue where it crosses Central Avenue and Aurora Street.

The plan is to install three roundabouts — two large ones and a mini one — to improve pedestrian safety and traffic congestion.

Some are not happy with the proposal.

“Plenty of communities have these,” said Lancaster Mayor Bill Schroeder. “They do work, they've been proven to work. They're in other parts of the country, in other countries, so they do work. It's just a matter of learning how to use them, use them safely, use them properly, and things will just move right along.”

The village says the design should be complete by the end of the year.

They hope to break ground next year.
