Syracuse Police Benevolent Association President Jeff Piedmonte and Councilor-at-Large Tim Rudd are dialing up their positions for and against the latest police contract proposal.

Piedmonte said Rudd disrespected police on Facebook.

“He is posting stuff last night on Facebook attacking us,” said Piedmonte.

Rudd saying he was not attacking anyone, and was explaining problems with the current contract, a contract he is taking heat for.

“We’ve never had this before where we get a signed agreement and then the council votes it down,” said Piedmonte.

But according to Rudd, there was never a vote down. He says Mayor Ben Walsh's office asked the council to withdraw. Rudd agreed willingly because of cost.

"I also don’t want Syracuse to go financially out of business,” said Rudd. “I do not think Jeff Piedmonte shares that perspective. Jeff Piedmonte is out for his members and his members only.”

The council claims the cost is too high to bear, but the PBA says the city has money to give. Rudd says if there is money it would be pulled from other departments, and that is what is truly unfair.

Piedmonte says if this can’t be resolved, the next step is arbitration.

Rudd says he and others are open to negotiations if the contract is revised.
