It's been six weeks since Kristin LaBruno, 32, and AJ Twentyfive III, 33, were killed in a car crash on Seneca Street in Buffalo on October 27. Family and friends are filled with questions.

Greg Sansone says he is a cousin of the victims, and it's been difficult as they wait for results of the investigation by Buffalo Police.

"It's just been devastating because nobody knows what's going on still," Sansone said. "There's two children who lost their mother. And then Anthony with obviously all his family, his mother is a disaster. And nobody can tell her what's going on."

Police are looking into the driver of a Maserati involved in the crash that night. A police report confirmed his last name is Brown.

Spectrum News knows his full name, but will not release it because he has not been charged with a crime.

There has been much speculation about it on social media and why the investigation has taken this long. A newly-formed Facebook page claims the driver is related to Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and that there is a cover-up of the facts, something the mayor emphatically denied Tuesday.

"They are not a relation. They're not a nephew. They're not a niece. Don't know them. Never met them," Brown said. "One thing that maybe the public should try to understand is that everyone with the last name Brown is not related to me."

Police say it was a complicated scene that accident investigators are currently trying to reconstruct. A toxicology report was conducted to find out if the driver of the Maserati was drunk, but the results have not been made public.

Police say the car was not involved in a chase that night. However, prosecutors do tell Spectrum News the driver was at the now-closed Vault bar and restaurant in West Seneca at one point prior to the accident.

Buffalo Police Capt. Jeff Rinaldo says they want the most accurate picture of what happened before they place any charges.

"There's not a rush to the judgment in this," Rinaldo said. "There's two victims here and there's victim's families and I think the public should respect the process so that those families get the justice they deserve as well as closure in this."

Investigators are working the Masterati's manufacturers in Europe to get crash data from the car's black box.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says that could take a year and may not yield useable results, so he may move on in the case without that information. He also said there is no connection between the driver and Mayor Brown.

While he understands the desire for answers, he says it's important to gather all the possible facts.

"I can assure the family and all their friends out there that this is on my radar, this is being investigated and more importantly this is being thoroughly investigated so we can make sure exactly what happened,” said Flynn.

As the family and friends of the victims wait for clarity on what happened, people have rallied behind them to raise nearly $50,000 total to support them through online fundraisers on GoFundMe and Facebook.

"Everyone's just really frustrated with what's going on and why there's no answers," Sansone said.
