A youth football team that’s already dealt with a tough year was thrown another hurdle on Saturday.

The Beast Elite Ducks have four teams competing for a national championship in Tampa, Florida. The kids on those teams range in age from 5 to 13. They were set to leave out of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport Saturday afternoon but their flight was cancelled, which left the team scrambling to find a way to get to Florida.

The team has already gone through a lot this year. They lost one of their coaches, Norzell Aldridge, in a shooting over the summer. The team says after going through that, Saturday’s unexpected circumstances is something they can overcome.

“We’ve just been through a lot and the devil’s been working in our organization, but we are prayed up," said Keion Paris, one of the team’s coaches. "We’re going to overcome everything. This right here we have to get over this obstacle, these kids worked too hard from July to now to get to where they need to be, this’ll crush them if they can’t go."

Saturday night, the team tried to book rental cars and buses to head to Cleveland and then catch a flight out of there to Tampa. They won’t know when exactly they’ll play. They have to get to Florida first and then register. But they could play as early as Sunday once they register.

“Frontier Airlines flight 2501 scheduled from Buffalo to Tampa was cancelled this evening due to uncontrollable circumstances. We are working with the team and have offered affected customers the option to book on the next available Frontier flight or a refund," Frontier Airlines said in a statement.
