After several holding center deaths and constant calls for action, Erie County legislators added new members to the newly formed Corrections Specialist Advisory Board.

Lawmakers confirmed 11 appointees to the board to provide better oversight of the Erie County Holding Center and correctional facility.

Public meetings will happen regularly to discuss issues related to jail management and the treatment of inmates.

"Not just are these people that are appointed from the community, they're also people that have the experience and expertise in jail management, to support the legislator and the office of the sheriff,” said April Baskin, chair of the Erie County Legislature.

Legislators said the goal of this advisory board is to help ensure all inmates are treated fairly and humanely.
