A local boxer is knocking out the competition in hopes of making the U.S. Olympic team.

Mikiah Kreps, 23, of Niagara Falls has been boxing since she was five. She won several fights this week at the Last Chance USA Boxing Olympic Trial Qualifier in California. She's already solidified her spot in the 125-pound weight class for the Olympic trials, which will be held in Louisiana in December.

Her mom, who is her coach, has been helping her get ready.

“[I’m] extremely proud,” Deborah Fields Kreps said. “She eats, sleeps and breathes boxing. Her whole fight, she's been so disciplined. You know, her first fight at 9-years-old, taking a couple years off, then going back at 14, fighting 14 and 15 and ever since then, she's come a long way.”

In December, Mikiah will compete against eight other women in her weight class to secure a spot at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
