A ranch in Depew continues to pick up the pieces after a fire last month killed over a dozen animals inside a barn on the property.
Dawn Bulinski remembers getting the call about the fire and not wanting to see the aftermath. She lost her 14-year-old horse Scire, who was born on the ranch.
"It's really hard because you had to come down here every day and that's what I was used to in the times when you think you have to be here, it's like I have nowhere to go and you have to realize they're not there anymore,” she said.
In all, 12 horses and two dogs died in the blaze.
"We miss all of them,” said Bulinski.
Martin Snyder, who runs the ranch, said the hardest part has been dealing with the loss of his dogs.
“They were like my kids they had their personalities, I tell people they were different as peanut butter and jelly but when they were together they were a sandwich,” said Snyder.
Snyder has received overwhelming support since the tragedy. Donations helped build a memorial on site for the animals, some have stopped by to drop off money, and crews even cleaned up some of the leftover debris at no cost.
"I didn't realize that I meant that much to the community,” Snyder said.
The support is helping him get back on his feet as he tries to rebuild. He's trying to save the money to build a new barn on site and get back to running a fixture in the community everyone loves.
"We're just going to take it one day at a time and hope for the best,” said Snyder.
"I would hate to see condos or something go up here I think it should stay a farm it's always been a farm and the whole community loves it,” Bulinski said.
