A former dog grooming and daycare center worker is now facing animal cruelty charges.

Police say 23-year-old Jarrod Dillman, who was formerly employed by Pawprints By Penny on Niagara Street, is accused of putting a slip lead on a 3-year-old Shih Tzu and slamming it against the wall.

The business says it has video of the incident, and terminated the employee immediately.

Dillman has been indicted on one count of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance.

Pawprints By Penny & Co. released the following statement earlier this month:

“We at Pawprints By Penny & Co. are saddened to inform the community of the tragic loss of one of our beloved clients at our Niagara Street location. We have reported the incident to the authorities and have been in communication with the owners. We are shocked at the occurrence and will update information as soon as possible.”
