One of the leading cancer centers in the nation is right here in Buffalo.
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center was ranked number 14 out of 885 cancer centers in the country by U.S. News and World Report.
Employees said they are proud of the prestigious ranking for Roswell and they are all giving themselves a pat on the back.
Roswell Park is the only cancer center in Western and Upstate New York to be included in the top 50 ranking, and only one other center in New York City joined Roswell in the top 15.
This year when calculating the ratings, U.S. News and World Report took more patient measures into consideration, including patient satisfaction and how often patients are directly discharged to their home.
For both, Roswell received the top possible scores.
Employees are celebrating this achievement, after moving up 16 spots on the list from last year.
While they are taking a moment to celebrate, Roswell Park President and CEO Candice Johnson said the work is never done for patients that walk through their doors.
"I hope that, for patients, it will give them a piece of mind,” Johnson said. “I hope that for patients they can be sure that when they walk through our doors that they're going to get not only the best care, but they're going to be thinking only about their disease and only about what's best for them.”
