Millions visit Niagara Falls every year, but its story starts seven-and-a-half miles down the Niagara River, where the falls used to be located.
- Visit Buffalo Niagara predicts strong finish to tourism season
- Despite a wet spring, Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours saw good numbers for May and June
"Downstream where the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge is today,” said John Kinney, president of Whirlpool Jet Tours.
It is facts like these Kinney loves to tell people on his tours.
Tourism got off to a slow start with a wet spring, but Kinney said things have certainly picked up speed in the middle of July, and now tourism is really starting to hit its stride.
"We do work by advanced reservation, so when someone made their booking six months to a year ahead of time, they are coming anyway,” Kinney said. “But it does affect walk-on-business. So we are very pleased that despite inclement weather this spring, our numbers for both May and June were up."
They expect even more people to start visiting the region. It's something Kinney is excited about.
"When we came here 28 years ago, access to the Niagara Whirlpool was impossible,” he said. “And people say ‘John, that's a place I never thought I would go to in my life.’ There are so many things to do in the Buffalo area and Western New York that the world now knows about and now jet boating is just part of that offering to our visitors."
