Allstate has released its 15th annual America's Best Drivers Report, ranking 200 cities based on collisions and hard-braking incidents.

Buffalo comes in at 148th nationally, and last of five cities studied in New York.

Local Allstate branch owner Rocky Gocella says while the ranking surprises him, the factors surrounding it are easy to guess: distracted driving.

"Between the radio, between the phone, between all of the other distractions, I've seen people going down the road actually reading a book," said Gocella.

Spectrum News spoke to several Buffalonians to assess how they feel about their fellow drivers.

They say there's a lot of room for improvement.

"When we get bad weather, they drive a little bit more reckless than they should, and when it's warmer outside, I feel that's the case out here, too," said Kerrin Bulls.

"People in Buffalo do not know how to drive slow and just allow people to merge and just keep the general flow of traffic moving," said Rick Curtis.

"Some drivers are more prone to causing these accidents due to the time restraints that we put on ourselves," said Kenneth Bulls.

Buffalo drivers have a collision every 7.9 years. The national average is once every 10.57 years.

The timing of Allstate's report is not a coincidence. The company released it to raise awareness ahead of one of the busiest, and most dangerous, days on the road.

"Last year, I believe 37,000 people died on the roads, and July 4th is coming up, and that was the deadliest day in the U.S.," said Allstate branch owner Tony Gocella.

Rocky and Tony Gocella say the best way for Buffalo to improve its ranking is for drivers to pay attention to the roads, and be aware of their surroundings.
