Thousands of backpacks will be filled with school supplies Monday before they’re distributed to students in need. More than 200 volunteers will take over New Era Field, stuffing the bags in honor of Pancho Billa.
It was the Bills superfan's dying wish, one fans made happen. Pancho, whose real name was Ezra Castro, died of cancer last month.
More than $100,000 has been raised for The Teacher's Desk program.
Organizers said today's event might be a little emotionally overwhelming, but there's still reason to smile.
"My guess is the ‘Shout’ song will be played quite a bit,” said John Mika, director of The Teacher’s Desk. “It will be happy. It's a good thing. It's taking something that's sad and making it really beautiful, and that's very special."
Volunteers will start filling the backpacks at 2p.m. Monday and they’re expected to fill 4,500 bags.
