Families of homicide victims came together at Ephesus Ministries in Buffalo Sunday for a day of healing.

"Coming to events like this keeps her memory alive it keeps me going,” said Arnester Vanoy. “To make the community aware that people's lives matter."

Vanoy is the mother of Tonya Harvey, a transgender woman murdered in Buffalo in February 2018.

Her loved ones are still seeking justice as no arrests have been made.

Vanoy and two other mothers shared the stories of losing their children.

"When I look at my grandchildren who I now raise and understanding that they'll never know their parents,” said Crystal Turner of Ohio. “I think people have to remember that violence again it doesn't affect just one person. It doesn't affect just a family. It affects the community."

The event was organized by a group called No More Tears.

It works with children and families affected by homicide across several states.
