Fire officials in Genesee County are investigating what led up to a barn fire in Byron.
Crews say a passerby called 911 after spotting flames on Freeman Road Saturday afternoon. A second alarm was immediately called after firefighters learned there were other buildings and vehicles nearby.
Despite high winds, crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading.
"This type of fire this time of year with the exposures and what you see there — you got to have an investigation. Have them check it out just to be sure, make sure we're not missing anything," said Byron Fire Chief Robert Mruczek.
A burn ban is in effect through May 15, 2019. Anyone who violates it could be ticketed.
