Firefighters from all over Western New York took on 24 flights of stairs in all of their equipment Saturday to raise money for a cause.
Carrying roughly 50 lbs of gear strapped to their back, crews climbed the Main Place Tower in Buffalo.
Each of the 470 steps raised money for the American Lung Association as a part of the ninth annual Fight for Air Climb. Firefighters are typically at higher risk of diseases like lung cancer, so it's a cause that really hits home.
"We're all exposed to the same hazards and environments so anything that can help prolong life and help care it's all gonna help at the end of the day," said Bowmansville volunteer firefighter, Mark Lawniczak.
The event raised nearly $150,000 of the American Lung Association's $172,000 goal. You can still donate online.
