For culinary entrepreneurs that have outgrown their kitchen at home, the new Kitchen at the Market will provide the space and storage to help them grow.

It was only fitting the Westminster Economic Development Initiative, or WEDI, was chosen to operate the new kitchen after years of creating and operating West Side Bazzar.

"We provide a lot of training and help recruit people to come to the West Side Bazaar. [We] built out a commercial kitchen and manage it there and basically just encourage entrepreneurs to be successful in their own space. [We also] provide support that's necessary, whether it's technical or even if it's emotional," said Benjamin Bissell, WEDI executive director.

They hope to operate the same inside the Broadway Market, but with one main difference. Rather than chefs selling fresh meals on site, it will be more food production.

"It's really small batch manufacturing. It's the next step after people take from a home based business, food business, maybe making baked goods at home, to stepping into a licensed kitchen and being able to make more complexed foods and test the market a bit more. Then ideally go on to start companies that can export that food both locally and possibly even beyond that," Bissell said.

The Kitchen at the Market is not the only new kid on the block.

The Sweet Whisk just opened on Valentine's Day, and says it's an exciting time for the Broadway Market.

"It was really a place for us to start working [as] it was a cheaper option than [for] us to have our own space. But we also wanted to be in an environment where there's other people, there's different cultures, and it's really a place for us that we feel we could grow and grow with the market," said Amanda Page, The Sweet Whisk co-owner.

Other businesses like the White Eagle Bakery have been inside the market for decades, riding the ups and downs.

"It's kinda been like a rollercoaster. When I first started here we were pretty busy, we even had two to three workers on a Saturday morning. Now I work by myself but I have noticed within the past year there are more businesses coming in on a permanent basis," said Rita Milligan, White Eagle Bakery Broadway Market supervisor.

The Kitchen at the Market is expected to open in March.
