Prison escapee Richard Matt is a central figure in the award-winning Showtime miniseries "Escape at Dannemora."
Now his daughter is discussing the show's portrayal of her father.
At the Brighton Place Library in the Town of Tonawanda, Jamie Scalise discussed the show and her new book about her father.
"People are kind of learning, Richard Matt's, ‘Oh that wasn't the truth necessarily. He does have a daughter, and they have this long-term relationship going on. That there hundreds of letters back and forth, and there's a lot of insight leading up to the events that happened,’” she said.
Scalise said she had a complicated relationship with her father and the two exchanged hundreds of letters before his escape.
She learned at age 9 that Matt was her father but didn't start communicating with him until a few years later. In his first letter, when she was 21, he asked her to put aside all she knew about him and ask him everything she wanted to know.
