The New Era Cap company has given official notice that the Derby location will be closing early next year.

The company says it will close its doors between March 15 and 29.

More than 200 employees currently work at the plant.

The company says it continues to discuss the decision with CWA, the union representing many of New Era’s employees, and has become aware of strong interest from other companies in hiring those employees who will lose their jobs.

New Era says the state labor department will help employees with job-interviewing skills and resume-writing tips later this month.

New Era announced last month that it intended to close the Derby plant, saying it was trying to align its business model with global competitors by moving away from owning and operating manufacturing plants.
