Greg Gauthier is still trying to make his neighborhood safer by calling attention to drivers blowing through four-way stop signs.
He's using surveillance video from his home to show just how bad the problem is.
Gauthier said cars, and even some school buses, continue to ignore the four-way stop sign at the intersection of Brinkman Avenue and Rohe Street.
Gauthier has documented 19 incidents this month alone where school buses have failed to stop. That's in addition to the footage he provided both the Buffalo Police Department and the city council in May.
A representative from First Student stopped by Monday to observe traffic at the intersection.
“That representative caught two school buses going right through the stop signs, so that he ended up turning around and chasing them and ended up stopping them,” Gauthier said.
First Student Safety Manager Steven Chase sent an email to Gauthier and Spectrum News in response to the list of buses rolling through stop signs.
The email says, in part, that his office investigates “every safety issue or complaint to the fullest extent,” but that having a “supervisor posted at that corner on a daily basis for hours is just not feasible at this time.”
Chase said that every First Student bus that drives through the intersection near Gauthier’s house “will have the onboard cameras pulled to verify” his complaint and that the “drivers will be dealt with accordingly.”
Further, Chase adds that he has observed a similar problem at the same intersection himself and he would like to see an increased police presence to address the issue with all vehicles.
Gauthier said he has spoken with Buffalo Police C District Chief Alphonso Wright and that they have discussed the possibility of speed bumps in the area.
Chief Wright did not immediately return a request for comment.
