WESTFIELD, N.Y. — Crews over at Johnson Estate Winery in Westfield started picking grapes August 31st. Our cameras were there the day they picked the Chancellor grapes, blended to make a dry, deep red, called Founder's Red.
A cool spring delayed work initially, but a hot, dry summer produced ideal conditions and got the winery back on track. Thanks to modern technology, Johnson is halfway through picking its 13 varieties of grapes spread across the 110-acre farm.
The harvest is set to be complete by November 1.
