BUFFALO, N.Y. - Kathy Spangler is in her second week with the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. She says her goal is to strike a balance between the good work of an active Diocese and its challenges, namely the clergy abuse scandal.
She says her faith lead her to this position, a role that now includes crisis manager. Spangler will be working closely with Bishop Richard Malone and says she has faith in her boss despite calls for his resignation.
"Ultimately the buck stops with him in this Diocese,” she said. “I think people want to know things and they want to know them from him. But for sure in the role I play, in this position, people will be hearing from me as well. I think we'll try and strike a healthy balance.”
Spangler replaces George Richert who resigned earlier this month.
