BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Two new, large buildings with stores, restaurants and apartments overlooking the pedestrian bridges and depending on the season, paddle boats or ice skaters, are planned for Canalside in downtown Buffalo.

The project will complete the South Aud Block, where the old arena once stood. It's now the Canal Lawn and an adjacent grassy area across from Harborcenter, with KeyBank Center just to the south.

The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation voted in favor of the Sinatra and Company Real Estate vision because they said the proposal was the best, with Sinatra already having a letter of intent for use of office space.

The development is adjacent to the under construction Explore and More Children's Museum, and across the Lloyd Street pedestrian bridge at the North Aud Block, where big plans were revealed last week.

The completion date for the project is 2020. Officials with Sinatra said next up is preliminary site testing, ideally in the fall, with shovels in the ground next spring.
