BUFFALO, N.Y. — One Buffalo family spent time this week reflecting on their childhood alongside Aretha Franklin.
Members of the Boyles family say they spent summers with the Queen of Soul when she would come to town visiting her mother and grandfather.
The Boyles lived on Lyth Place on Buffalo's east side around the corner from where Franklin's grandfather lived.
More than a decade ago, Yvonne Boyles Evans caught up with Franklin at a concert in Niagara Falls. After Franklin's passing Thursday, Evans Boyles reflected on the pride her family felt during the R&B star's career.
"Her achievements were just for a small bit a part of ours also, cause we felt like she grew up where we did, we knew her coming up as a child," said Yvonne Boyles Evans.
