Some furry, four-legged Western New Yorkers got the celebrity treatment and had an underwater photo shoot with world-famous photographer Seth Casteel this weekend.

Casteel made a stop in Buffalo Sunday on his 2018 Underwater Dogs Photo Shoot Tour.

"Not everybody has a picture of their dog being a dog at its absolute best: swimming underwater and chasing after a tennis ball,” he said.

Casteel turned underwater dog photography into a career after accidentally discovering what it looked like in 2012.

"Did a little photo shoot on land, he decided he would rather be in the pool, so he jumped in the pool, chasing his favorite tennis ball, and he was going under the water and I thought, ‘Wow what does that look like?’ so I bought a little point and shoot underwater camera, did some snapshots and that was the beginning of Underwater Dogs," he said.

His photos became an internet sensation, and since then, he's published eight books.

But the dogs make each photo shoot different; the one thing Casteel asks for is that they like to swim and will go after a tennis ball.

"All the dogs that are coming today, like to swim. Not all dogs out there like to swim, but these dogs do, so now that we have that down, it's all about the game of fetch. I bring a tennis ball out we start to play fetch right alongside the pool, then move that game of fetch into the water for a series of fetch-based games, the idea is they try to get the ball and I take pictures of them trying to do that,” he said.

The photo shoot was held at SandDancer Canine Swim Therapy & Fitness, where dogs can go to swim in winter months, or use hydro-therapy to help with injuries all year long.
