The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo has place two priests on administrative leave, pending an investigation into accusations of abuse.

The Diocese confirmed Monday morning that Father Art Smith, of the Blessed Mother Teresa Parish in Depew, and Father Same Venne, a retired priest who was still saying mass at St. Stephen’s Parish in Grand Island, are facing accusations of sexually abusing children.

The two men are on leave as the diocese investigates the claims.

The announcement comes as the diocese continues to address accusations of child sex abuse made against more than 40 priests over the past 50 years.
