AUSTIN, Texas — What’s connection between old tires and the pesky blood suckers known as mosquitoes? They’re a preferred mating/child-rearing zone.
According to Austin Public Health, within a single breeding season, water that collects inside one discarded tire can produce more than 10,000 adult mosquitoes.
To curb this, Austin Public Health, Austin Resource Recovery and Travis County is hosting a Tire Take Back Day, giving the community an opportunity to recycle tires for free.
Drop old tires off from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 14 at two locations: 1) Austin Resource Recovery, 2514 Business Center Drive, Austin, TX 78744 or 2) Great Hills Baptist Church, 10500 Jollyville Rd, Austin, TX 78759.
Up to 8 passenger tires will be accepted per household. Tractor and commercial tires will not be accepted.
