BUFFALO, N.Y. -- About 80 students left the classroom and headed outside Buffalo City Honors to protest teacher cuts; part of the district proposal to help balance the budget.

The district is looking to replace five teachers with 16 school aides. Two of the positions on the chopping block would be coming from the music department.

"Our kids have really been going through the ringer in terms of their parents fighting for their teachers to stay and the Buffalo Teachers Federation (the teacher union) and the school board," said Wendy Dinna, a parent. "They have really gotten lost in the shuffle and their voices needed to be heard here at City Honors."

The dispute has made it all the way to the State Supreme Court, where a judge issued a temporary restraining order against the district and school board to keep them from replacing those teachers.
