NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Violent crime is down in the city of Newburgh. That's according to the State Division of Criminal Justice Services for 2017.
There were 11 shootings with 14 victims as of July 5. Last year, that number was 23 shootings, with 27 victims. The city has many policies to end recidivism, and police say the community has stepped up to help.
One service from Newburgh Police links people with social services in order to make it easier for people to get the help and resources they need. The Orange County district attorney says a gun violence program through his office has helped send a message.
