SAN ANTONIO -- The heated debate whether to remove Confederate statues, such as the one at Travis Park, continues in San Antonio. One group that wants the monument to stay is receiving threats.

Downtown's Travis Park continues to divide the Alamo City.

Dozens gathered for public comment at San Antonio City Council Chambers Wednesday night to debate whether to remove confederate statues.

Earlier this month, San Antonio council members Roberto Trevino of District 1, and William Cruz Shaw of District 2, filed a request to move out the Confederate statue.

The group responsible for the Save the Monument Rally held over weekend asked the council to reconsider.

"And we will continue this fight until they either allow the citizens to vote on this. And, if they don't – we will press forward with a full recall of to unseat Trevino and Shaw," said Brandon Burkhart of the group This is Texas Freedom Force.

"I mean it should be in the garbage, but if they want to put it in their house. If they want to put it in a museum - where all the racists can get together and look at it and remember the good 'ol days then fine," said San Antonio resident Matthew Lerma.

Now the proposal to remove the monument must first go through a Governance Council Committee before the City Council makes a decision.

That could happen end of August or early next month.
