SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The administrator of James Square Health and Rehab Center in Syracuse is now addressing reports of treatment issues at the facility.
Earlier this week, a 78-year-old woman’s family says received concerning treatment at James Square. And the attorney general's office recently raided the facility, looking for patient care records.
Officials from James Square said in a statement they've worked to address the family's allegations, but are limited in the information they can share due to health privacy requirements.
They went on to say Syracuse police found no wrongdoing, and James Square fully reported the care provided to regulators.
Thursday, they took it a step further by publishing an open letter to the community in the Post Standard.
It said in part that the focus of the recent news coverage "follows a period of receivership and management transition at the facility. For any-long-term care institution, such circumstances are challenging. This has been true at James Square."
Among other changes, the administrator says, in his 10 weeks with the facility, they have reinstituted a Family Council to ensure communication with families. And, they have recruited a team of high quality nurse managers who are bright, caring and committed to residents, family members and co-workers.
They say they are meeting with residents and family members on a daily basis.
