MIDDLESEX, N.C. -- The Nash County Sheriff's office suspended the search for a small plane that sent out a distress signal Tuesday evening.
Crews had been searching the area along N.C. Highway 231 and Buck Deans Road in Middlesex.
The sheriff's office received a call from authorities in Washington D.C. around 7 p.m. saying that a pilot had picked up a distress signal from another aircraft which prompted the search.
Witnesses claimed to have seen a plane make a sharp right turn but officials said they found no sign of a plane.
There's no word on if the search will resume.
