Police responded to a report of weapon possession in Schenectady early Tuesday evening, taking two into custody.
It happened on the 800 block of State Street. Police got a call about two people believed to be carrying a handgun. Those two suspects fled; both men -- 21-year-old Timothy Morris of Troy and 20-year-old Jeffery Nunnally of Schenectady -- were taken into custody a short distance away, according to the Schenectady Police.
Witnesses told police that they saw one of the men fire a shot. Morris is alleged to have fired at the officers approaching him. Responding officers recovered a weapon at the scene. No one was hurt.
Both men appeared in Schenectady City Court. Morris faces charges of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Nunnally faces no charges in relation to this incident, but will faces charges related to an active warrant in another case.
Police are asking anyone in the area with information to contact police at 382-5263, and they are also asking anyone who may have been in the area of 817-819 State Street between 4:50 and 5 p.m. to check their cars for any "damage resulting from a gunshot."
