ROME, N.Y. -- Rome's future was highlighted during Mayor Jackie Izzo's first State of the City address on Tuesday.

Izzo said conversations are starting with Erie Boulevard commercial building owners to improve the appearance of the roadway.

She's planning to enter Rome in another Downtown Revitalization Initiative, hoping to win $10 million.

Izzo also brought up plans for a new apartment complex at the former DeWitt Clinton School site, and also discussed how the city secured funding for the Bellamy Harbor Park area.

The mayor also said the North George Street parking garage will need to come down, opening the area to new development possibilities.

Izzo said grant money is making people take a second look at Rome.

"If we don't have remediation redevelopment, we can't entice new businesses to locate here and we also have to have resources available to help our existing businesses to grow. That's extremely important," Izzo said.

Izzo also talking about tourism and increasing attendance at Fort Stanwix National Monument.
