It might be raining, but those in Wynantskill are celebrating spring with the opening of a local favorite.
It's been a tradition for 79 years, with lines surrounding picnic tables at Jack’s Drive In for opening day on Tuesday.
“You know, every year when we open up, it's a sign of spring for the community,” says Albert Deeb, the general manager.
While the weather wasn’t ideal for a picnic, customers say it’s about more than just a cheeseburger.
“I hear a lot of people who are in their 50s and 60s now who said their parents used to bring them here when they were kids,” says Deeb.
“I've been coming here for 35 years," said Richard Gregware. "I just keep coming back.”
Jack's Drive In opened in 1938, and while the location changed in the 1940s, not much else has.
“The building might have changed a little bit, but as far as the food, we added a few things, but the burgers and onions, those style, the way we do it, it's just about the same,” says Deeb.
