AUSTIN, Texas - People call it the most dog-friendly day of the year.

Hundreds of pet owners and their four-legged friends got their exercise Saturday at the 18th annual “Mighty Texas Dog Walk” near the Austin American Statesman building.

The theme for this year was Furry Dog Tales.  Besides winning prizes for the best fairy tale costumes, pet owners got to stock up on treats and dog food, and receive training and veterinarian advice - all for free.

Some dogs there were also up for adoption.

“The amazing thing is that the dogs are beautifully behaved. They’re not even barking, so you don’t any hears dog barking. It’s just like they know it’s a special day and they’re just so happy all they want to do is just take in the day,” said Sheri Soltes, founder and president of Service Dogs, Inc.

The fundraiser benefits Service Dogs Inc. The nonprofit adopts dogs from shelters and trains them to serve Texans living with disabilities.
