ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- On a cold and blustery March day, a snow day for most school districts across the region, there was just enough snow for sledding at Chestnut Ridge Park.
"We had the day off, and we didn't go skiing because it was a little too treacherous to drive down to Holiday Valley, so we came out to Chestnut Ridge to hit the slopes," said Damien Kunda, a town of Boston resident.
Sledding here is something many people haven't been able to do all season, but the chilly temps made for a short time on the hills.
"It burns your face because there's so much powder, and when you hit it, the powder flies up in the air," said Damien's son, Ryan.
"It wasn't bad when we were all bundled up, but it was like right now and we were sledding, you could go one time and have to go back inside," said Amanda Thorpe, who was at the park with Evan, Damien and Scott Thorpe.
With the accumulation at the airport breaking a single-day record, it just leaves one thing on the minds of many kids - and their parents.
"Hopefully we have the day off tomorrow. Then we'll go skiing tomorrow," said Damien.
