PARMA, N.Y. -- Firefighters in Parma had to deal with bitterly cold temperatures along with flames at a house fire on Union Street around 6 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters shut down the portion of Union street between Ogden Parma Townline Road and Ridge Road for about an hour.

The Spencerport fire chief said a passing driver saw smoke, grabbed a fire extinguisher and started to put the fire out. One person got out safely. No injuries were reported.

The fire appears to have started in some sort of recycle bin storage box with wood and paper outside of the house.
