UTICA, N.Y. -- Students at the Utica School of Commerce said Tuesday they are disappointing the two-year college will close both of its locations in Utica and Canastota.

The school has been family-owned since being founded in 1896. Academic operations at the school will end on December 23.

Utica School of Commerce President Philip Williams said it is closing because enrollment is just too low.

"Making this decision was very very difficult, but our enrollment moving forward really doesn't warrant our sustainability moving forward," said Williams.

"I was wicked sad actually because it is, it's too bad but I think change is a good thing," said Ryan Polce, a student.

Current students will have transfer opportunities.

All faculty and many staff members will be laid off on December 23, but some staff may stay during the transition.
